Police blotter: Club One shooting among incidents on busy weekend
Officers at the Mount Vernon station had their hands full this past weekend, investigating a shooting and multiple robberies in addition to two incidents where officers were assaulted, according to Monday’s Fairfax County Police blotter.
The shooting happened early Saturday morning outside Club One in the Woodlawn Shopping Center (see map). Police responding to a call for shots fired around 2 a.m. didn’t locate a shooter but did find shell casings in the parking lot and a vehicle struck by bullets. No injuries were reported, however.
Detectives are investigating leads, police said. This is the second incident in a little over two years that multiple shots were fired in the parking lot of Club One. In May 2017, one person was hit in the hand after a shooting that also damaged vehicles in the lot, police said at the time. No arrests have been announced for that incident.
Purse snatched, deliver man mugged
A woman’s purse was snatched Friday evening in the Belle View Shopping Center, according to police. The assailant grabbed the purse from her as she walking to her vehicle in the parking lot and ran to a four-door Honda Civic that was waiting nearby.
The suspect was described a black male, approximately 20 years old, short hair, and roughly 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. Police did not say if the victim suffered any injuries.
On Saturday evening a pizza delivery man was robbed by a group of people in their late teens or early 20s, police said. That happened in the 7900 block of Audubon Avenue (see map) around 8:30 p.m. The Fairfax1 police helicopter responded to the incident and searched the area, but no arrests were made, police said.
The assailants stole $35 and the food the delivery man was carrying. Police did not say if the victim suffered any injuries.
Officers assaulted in separate incidents
An Alexandria man is facing multiple charges after allegedly resisting arrest and kicking an officer in the groin while being taken into custody on Friday afternoon.
Officers had spotted the 30-year-old suspect in the 8200 block of Russell Road around 4:30 p.m. and went to serve him with an outstanding warrant. Police say the suspect, who was also carrying a pocket knife, resisted arrest and struggled with the officers. He allegedly caused $1,000 worth of damage to the police cruiser he was placed in.
The suspect is charged with assault on law enforcement, obstruction by threat, destruction of property, and attempt to flee from law enforcement.
Later on Friday, officers were allegedly assaulted during an incident around 8:30 p.m. in the 8300 block of Richmond Highway. Police say a 39-year-old man was “staggering and waving his arms” and then lunged at one of the officers, pushing him in the chest and attempting to punch him several times.
The suspect was eventually arrested after officers used a taser to get him under control. He’s charged with assault on law enforcement, drunk in public, and was also found to have an outstanding warrant for larceny.
Police did not say if any of the officers were injured in either incident.
