Man suffers life-threatening injuries after being struck on Route 1

A pedestrian crossing Route 1 yesterday evening was seriously injured after being hit by a car, according to the Fairfax County Police.

The accident happened in the southbound lanes near the Sacramento Drive intersection shortly before 8 p.m. Police say the 40-year-old pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

The pedestrian was not in the crosswalk, according to police.

The driver of the striking vehicle stayed on the scene, and faces no charges at this time. Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident, and that the investigation is ongoing.
