Driver killed in Friday evening wreck lived in Mount Vernon area
The man killed in a two-vehicle crash on Old Mount Vernon Road on Friday night has been identified as 34-year-old Jonathan Graham, a Mount Vernon-area resident.
Graham was the co-founder of the Washington D.C.-based political consulting and fundraising firm Gula Graham. The firm tweeted a statement Sunday morning announcing Graham’s death.
“This weekend we lost a beloved member of the GG family. Jon Graham was killed in a tragic car accident near his home in Mount Vernon,” the company said. “We are filled with sorrow and sadness. He was a loyal friend and business partner. He is irreplaceable in the hearts of everyone who knew him.”
Gula Graham said Jonathan Graham is survived by his wife, Dria.
His death was also noted in Politico’s “Playbook” newsletter on Sunday morning.
Graham died Friday evening after the Porsche he was driving collided with a Mercedes Benz SUV on Old Mount Vernon Road sometime after 7 p.m.. According to police, the SUV was making a left turn onto Old Mount Vernon Road from Old Mill Road when the Porsche struck it. A male passenger in the Porsche was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes SUV was not seriously injured in the wreck, and was later seen leaving the scene of the crash with his wife after speaking with police. There were no passengers in the SUV at the time of the wreck.
Police have not released Graham’s name yet, nor have they made an official statement on the cause of the crash. However witnesses from the neighborhood have made statements on social media indicating that the Porsche was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. The impact of the collision knocked the SUV approximately 100 feet east of the intersection, and the force of the collision was enough to sever a wheel assembly from each car and leave debris scattered along the road.
The Porsche ended up off the left side of the road in a grouping of trees and bushes. The SUV ended up partially off the right side of the road, with the rear of the vehicle in a drainage ditch.
Old Mount Vernon Road and some surrounding streets remained closed for hours as police crash reconstruction experts investigated the scene.
