The playground at the Wilton Woods Center near Telegraph Road will be closed for approximately one month so that a new playground can be built on the site.

According to the Fairfax County Park Authority, work is expected to begin this week at Wilton Woods, which is located at 3701 Franconia Road (see map), Barring any weather-related setbacks, the playground is expected to reopen in late September.

The new playground is estimated to cost approximately $120,000, according to the Park Authority. The work is being funded by a 2016 Park Authority bond passed by voters. Other playgrounds in the area, including Farrington Park in Huntington and Bucknell Manor Park, have also been replaced thanks to the 2016 bond.

The new playground’s equipment is designed for children ages 2-12, and will meet the latest safety and ADA standards, the Park Authority said. The playground will also get new borders and subsurface drainage enhancements.
