Police: 16-year-old boy dies after accidentally shooting himself

Thursday night’s deadly shooting was in a home off of Pole Road.

A 16-year-old boy died Thursday after police say he accidentally shot himself with a firearm.

Police did not release the youth’s name, but said that he was shot while handling a gun on a bed in the 8400 block of Del Norte Court (see map). Police say the shooting is believed to be unintentional.

The 16 year old was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

A Fairfax County Police spokesman reached by phone Friday evening said no further details would be released about the incident until Saturday.
