Police blotter: Man assaults, robs woman pushing stroller

A woman had her purse snatched during a broad-daylight robbery while walking her two children Thursday, but fortunately no serious injuries were reported, according to today’s Fairfax County Police blotter.

The woman was walking in the 3400 block of Van Dyke Street (see map), which is located in the Harmony Place Trailer Park, around 2 p.m. when a man approached her and asked for money to take the bus. The woman responded that she did not have money, according to police.

The assailant then yanked the woman’s purse off her shoulder, knocking her into the stroller, which then tipped over and injured one of the children. The man then ran off, police said.

The victims did not need medical assistance at the scene, police said.

The suspect was described as being white, approximately 6 feet tall with an “average build,” in either his 30s or 40s.
