Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber awards scholarships to eight local students

The Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce awarded eight scholarships to local high school seniors Tuesday night during a ceremony hosted by The Fairfax Retirement Community.

The scholarships were worth a total of $16,000, according to the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber, which has awarded scholarships annually for the past 20 years. More than $200,000 worth of scholarships have been awarded during that time, the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber said in a statement.

“The commitment the chamber makes to ensure scholarships each year is extraordinary,” Holly Dougherty, executive director of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber said. “Our youth are the future, and these scholarships are an investment in the future of our community.”

This year’s scholarship recipients are:

  • Alyssa Thomas, West Potomac High School
  • Danielle Thomas, West Potomac High School
  • Michael Krause, Thomas Jefferson High School
  • Christopher Truong, Robert E. Lee High School
  • Emily Riffer, Robert E. Lee High School
  • Ian Peverall, Mount Vernon High School
  • Alexander Morin, South County High School
  • Emily Boehm, Mount Vernon High School (Ourisman Scholar for 2018)
