The Washington Redskins announced Wednesday morning that they had waived former West Potomac High School standout De’Mornay Pierson-El.

Pierson-El, a 2014 graduate of West Potomac who played collegiately at Nebraska, was dropped from the team’s 90-man roster in order to sign rookie free agent tight end Garrett Hudson, according to Redskins.com.

Pierson-El was one of 14 undrafted free agents that signed with the Redskins in early May. He participated in the team’s rookie minicamp earlier this month and was currently taking part in the Redskins’ offseason practices, known as OTAs.

One of the best athletes in the Richmond Highway area’s history, Pierson-El played wide receiver, quarterback, running back and defensive back during his time at West Potomac, accounting for nearly 70 total touchdowns rushing, receiving and passing. After graduation, he went on to star at Nebraska, where he was a punt returner and wide receiver.

Pierson-El was one of two West Potomac graduates to sign as undrafted free agents with NFL squads; 2013 grad Bunmi Rotimi is currently trying to make the Chicago Bears final roster as a defensive lineman.
