First robbery reported in Richmond Highway corridor area in over a month

A juvenile was robbed by a group of individuals on Saturday afternoon, marking the first robbery reported in the Richmond Highway corridor and surrounding neighborhoods in more than a month.

Saturday’s incident happened around noon in a parking lot of the 8700 block of Richmond Highway (see map), which is where the Woodlawn Shopping Center is located. A police spokeswoman said there were between 2-3 suspects, and no arrests were reported. More details were not immediately available.

The robbery is the first in the Mount Vernon police district — which encompasses most of the Richmond Highway area — since April 3. That particular robbery was the only one reported in April, a steep drop from the 27 robberies reported in the district during the first three months of the year.

The statistics are according to CrimeReports.com, which is updated every weekday by the Fairfax County Police Department. The site allows users to map various crimes, using different time ranges and other criteria.

There were 115 robberies in the Mount Vernon police district in 2017, a slight drop from 117 in 2016.
