The Fairfax County Park Authority completed a total renovation of Bucknell Manor Park’s playground earlier this year and will be holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sunday.

The previous playground was torn down in January and new equipment was installed in February as part of the $100,000 project, which was paid for through a 2016 bond. The bond is helping the Fairfax County Park Authority upgrade older playgrounds and bring them into ADA compliance, according to a Park Authority press release.

The new playground is significantly larger than the old one, which was built in the 1990s, according to a Park Authority spokeswoman. It features play areas designed for kids of different ages, as well as new borders, subsurface drainage and child safety fencing. A trail that leads to the playground has also been resurfaced.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 5 p.m., and is open to the public. Bucknell Manor Park is located at 2223 Beacon Hill Road (see map).
