Although consistent spring-like weather continues to be elusive, the annual spring launch of the Richmond Highway area’s farmers markets is just around the corner.

The longtime Mount Vernon/McCutcheon Farmers Market restarts Wednesday, May 2. The market will be in its usual spot in the parking lot of Sherwood Regional Library, which is located at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane (see map). The market will be open every Wednesday from 8 a.m.-noon, and once again it will run well into December, closing on the 19th of that month.

The Mount Vernon/McCutcheon Farmers Market is one of 11 overseen by the Fairfax County Park Authority. The markets are “producer-only,” meaning that vendors are only allowed to sell what they raise on their farms or make from scratch.

SNAP is accepted at the market at the McCutcheon market, and a “bonus dollar” program is available as well. No pets are allowed, except for service animals.

As in previous years, there will also be a master gardener available on site to answer questions and give advice.
