Volunteers from the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce and Fort Belvoir collected 57 bags of trash Saturday along Jeff Todd Way and Mount Vernon Memorial Highway.

The 25 or so volunteers were cleaning up the road as part of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber’s annual “spring clean.” Among the items pulled from the side of the road was an old desk, the chamber said in a press release.

Jeff Todd Way, which opened in 2013 and links Richmond Highway to Telegraph Road next to Fort Belvoir, is named after the former chairman and longtime member of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce who passed away in 2011. Todd owned multiple Roy Rogers franchises in the area, including the restaurant at the corner of Route 1 and Jeff Todd Way.

The Chamber thanked its corporate partners Candlewood Suites and IGH Hotels Staybridge Suites on Fort Belvoir for assisting with transportation and other support for the efforts, and also credited officers from the Mount Vernon district station for providing safety support during the cleanup.
