EMMAvet, a new veterinary urgent care for dogs and cats, is planning to open this summer in the Belle View Shopping Center.

EMMAvet is owned and operated by Veronica Jarvinen, a veterinarian with previous experience working in the emergency department of specialty hospitals. The clinic’s name is short for “EMergent Medical Attention” — and Emma also happens to be the name of Jarvinen’s dog.

The clinic will be located at 1628 Belle View Boulevard, which is where Pro Feed Pet Nutrition Center used to be located. Construction is just beginning and Jarvinen hopes to open in July or August.

The clinic will be for walk-ins only, and Jarvinen said it will fill a need for pets that need quick care but not necessarily from an emergency room.

“Because of my experience, I know that not every dog and cat emergency needs to be in a specialty setting, where clients sometimes wait for hours in a busy ER,” Jarvinen said.

EMMAvet will be open until 11 p.m. every day. Jarvinen said the clinic will have an on-site laboratory, digital radiology and ultrasound “to allow for a quick diagnosis and to get our pets home to their loving families.”

The clinic will provide a place for cat and dog owners to bring their pets when they are vomiting or have diarrhea, urinary tract infections, torn toenails, skin lacerations or other wounds, Jarvinen said. If the condition of the pet proves to be more serious, Jarvinen said the clinic can help stabilize them and refer them to a specialty hospital or trauma center.

“We are busy with jobs and families in this fast-paced and family-oriented community,” Jarvinen said. “I hope to bring the top quality care our pets deserve.”
