Sidewalk, retaining wall project to close lane of Route 1 near Quander Road until February

Quander Road intersection

The project will connect the sidewalk between Ourisman Ford and the hotels prior to the intersection of Mount Eagle Drive.

Sidewalk construction and other work between Quander Road and Mount Eagle Drive will close the right lane of Richmond Highway in that area until late February.

In addition to adding more than 500 feet of sidewalk to a stretch where none previously existed, the project requires the construction of a new 214-foot retaining wall and other improvements, according to information provided by the Fairfax County Department of Transportation. The estimated completion date for the entire project is March 28, although weather could affect that projection.

The Arthur Construction Company is the contractor performing the work.

The project’s scope also includes the following, per FCDOT:

  • New handrail
  • Storm drainage structure and pipe modifications
  • Asphalt demolition and restoration
  • Entrance restoration
  • Pavement markings
  • Tree removal
  • Water line modifications
  • Relocation of fire hydrant
  • Water valve adjustment
  • Site restoration work
