Multiple water main breaks reported in area
At least three water main breaks have been reported in the Richmond Highway area Thursday as temperatures remain well below freezing.
The break affecting the most residents happened earlier this morning in the Westgrove neighborhood. At least 109 people are without water as of 1 p.m., according to Fairfax Water.
The break, which occurred in the 7000 block of Park Terrace Drive (see map) earlier this morning, is reportedly affecting 60 houses on Park Terrace Drive, three houses on Belle Vista Drive, two houses on Tulane Drive, 17 houses on Regent Drive, nine houses on Tatum Drive, 11 houses on Huntley Place and seven Houses on Sussex Place.
Fairfax Water also reported a break in the Mount Vernon area in the 5200 block of Burke Drive (see map). The break was reported around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night, but no information about the number of affected customers was available as of 1 p.m.
A third water main break was reported in the Belle View neighborhood around noon today. That break, which happened near 6507 Potomac Avenue between I Street and Belle View Boulevard (see map), is affecting 12 apartments.
Water mains are more vulnerable to breaking in freezing weather. Temperatures in the area are not expected to get above freezing until Friday afternoon.
