Man charged with DWI after hitting police car on Sherwood Hall Lane

Police say a man driving while intoxicated struck this police car on Sherwood Hall Lane on Friday night.
Police say a man driving while intoxicated ran into a stopped police car and narrowly missed striking an officer on Sherwood Hall Lane on Friday night.
Robert Jones Jr., 73, faces charges of DWI and refusal of blood/breath test after he allegedly struck the police car’s open door. The officer, who was in the middle of a traffic stop, had just returned to his vehicle and had to turn sideways to avoid being struck by Jones’ car, police said.
Nobody was injured in the collision, which happened near the intersection of Frances Drive in Hybla Valley area (see map).
Jones has previous convictions in the last 10 years for DWI and refusing to take a breath test, police said.
“The officer normally works during the day but happened to be working last night as part of our efforts to crack down on impaired drivers,” the Fairfax County Police said in a post on their Facebook page. “We are thankful he is safe tonight, but we want everyone to have a safe December and make it home for the holidays. Please don’t drink and drive!”
