Tanger Kabob House Cafe is located near the intersection of Telegraph Road and Farmington Drive.

A new Kabob restaurant near Huntington is aiming to open the last week of November or the first week of December, the restaurant’s owner said Wednesday.

Tanger Kabob House Cafe, located at 5735 Telegraph Road (see map), will serve Moroccan- and Mediterranean-influenced fare, as well traditional American breakfasts infused with inspiration from overseas, said Hassan Horairy. The restaurant is part of a small strip of shops just south of North Kings Highway, bordering the Jefferson Manor and Fort Lyon neighborhoods. The space had been vacant since a furniture and decor business closed in 2015.

Horairy, 47, is a native of Morocco and an electrician by trade. He’s making his first venture in the restaurant business with help from his wife. He said he’s familiar with the Telegraph Road area from working in Fairfax County for years, and thinks Tanger Kabob fills a casual dining void in the area.

“There’s nothing for the neighborhood. If you want a cup of coffee you need to go to [the city of] Alexandria,” said Horairy, who noted that dozens of people using the shopping center have stopped in to ask when his restaurant will be opening.

Tanger Kabob will serve more than kabobs. Entrees will include fish dishes such as salmon, as well as slow-cooked lamb and beef dishes. A to-go menu will cater to customers wanting to pop in for lunch, and will include subs and other diner-type foods.

The menu will also have vegetarian and vegan options, and a barista will be on staff to serve coffee, including cappuccino, all throughout the day, Horairy said. The restaurant will not serve alcohol, which was part of the lease agreement, Horairy said. In the future that may be reviewed to allow beer and wine sales.

Tanger Kabob’s hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and delivery service will be offered through UberEATS, Horairy said.
