Students at Mount Vernon Woods Elementary School got a special treat Monday as Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman visited the Hybla Valley-area school.

Sulijah Conteh, a sixth grader at Mount Vernon Woods, won an ESPN 980 drawing to have Norman visit, according to WJLA.com. The visit appeared to be a big hit with Conteh, who met with Norman privately before he addressed the school at an assembly, as well as other students and staff.

Mount Vernon Woods principal Clint Mitchell said that Norman urged kids to stay in school and listen to teachers. Norman also noted that learning will continue throughout your life, no matter what career you choose.

“He also shared that he was once where these kids are and wanted them to know that he is still in school as they are because of the fact that he has weekly film study,” Mitchell said.

Norman, widely considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, made the visit less than 24 hours after the Redskins 33-19 loss to Dallas on Sunday. Even though the Cowboys came out on top, Norman helped hold Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant to just 39 yards receiving. It was Norman’s first game back after missing time due to a rib injury.
