Rep. Don Beyer (D-8) will be holding a “Service Academy Night” for high school students interested in applying to the Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Air Force Academy or the Merchant Marine Academy.

The session will be held Sept. 24 in the lobby of Beyer’s district office, located at 5285 Shawnee Road in the city of Alexandria (see map). Beyer’s staff will be on hand from 7-8:30 p.m. to help with questions about the service academies’ two-tiered admissions process. That process involves applying the individual academy and meeting their minimum standards, and then getting nominated by either a congressman or senator.

Students will be able to turn in completed nomination applications at the session.

The Coast Guard Academy does not use congressional appointments.

Beyer’s congressional district covers much of the Richmond Highway area as well as Lorton, Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and some of McLean.

More information about service academy nominations can be found on Beyer’s website
