Report: Man convicted of involuntary manslaughter in death of Mount Vernon grad

Sam Kwarteng

Sam Kwarteng, 20, was killed on April 13 in Richmond.

A Richmond man has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the April shooting death of Samuel Kwarteng, a 2013 Mount Vernon graduate who was a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University.

According to Richmond.com, a judge found Emmanuel E. Jordan, 20, guilty in the death of Kwarteng. The shooting occurred at an off-campus house where Jordan, who was not a VCU student, lived.

Jordan confessed to police that he had shot Kwarteng, but said that the shooting was accidental, the website reported.

Kwarteng, 20, grew up in the Pinewood neighborhood, attending Walt Whitman and Mount Vernon before entering VCU. Known as Sam K. to friends, Kwarteng’s death shocked Richmond Highway and VCU communities. Friends and supporters quickly fulfilled a GoFundMe campaign to pay for his funeral expenses, and his memory will be honored this weekend in a memorial basketball tournament at Mount Vernon.
