Carl Sandburg Middle School principal resigns
Terrence Yarborough announced earlier this week that he is resigning as principal of Carl Sandburg Middle School.
Yarborough had been on leave from the school since at least early April. He announced his resignation in a letter sent to parents on Wednesday.
“I will always cherish the memories and relationships that I have built here at Sandburg and I wish all of you the very best in the years to come,” Yarborough said in the letter. “It has also been a special privilege for me to work with such a dedicated and devoted staff and I am confident their focus will remain on student success. I leave knowing that Sandburg Middle School is in a good place and that our school community is strong.”
Larry Jones is now interim principal at Carl Sandburg, according to the school’s website.
Yarborough was hired as principal at Sandburg in 2010. He said he intends to move to North Carolina to be closer to his family, and will take some time off before making his next career move.
FCPS has not given any information on why Yarborough had been on leave, and Yarborough did not address the issue in his letter. FCPS spokesman John Torre did not comment beyond providing the letter.
FCPS Assistant Superintendent Terry Dade had sent a letter to parents April 10 informing them that Yarborough was on leave and that assistant principal Jessica Tippins would be serving as principal designee.
This marks the second time a principal in the West Potomac pyramid has resigned during the 2016-2017 school year. Alexander Case resigned from West Potomac in February.
