Police blotter: Man beaten by muggers; single-car crash closes road

Two men assaulted a 42-year-old man during a robbery near Hybla Valley last night, sending him to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to today’s Fairfax County Police blotter.
The assailants approached the man near the Meadow Woods apartments in the 7100 block of Mint Place around 8:45 p.m, according to police. They asked the victim for money, at which point he ran away, police said.
The suspects chased the man down and began punching and kicking him until a passerby yelled, causing the two assailants to flee.
The victim’s backpack, which contained a cell phone and passport, was taken during the altercation.
Early morning crash closes North Kings Highway
A 38-year-old man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries this morning after a one-car crash in the Penn Daw area.
The driver hit a utility pole near the intersection of Richmond Highway and North Kings Highway/Shields Avenue around 4:50 a.m., according to a police spokesman.
The accident, which closed a segment of North Kings Highway until approximately 6:30 a.m., is still under investigation, according to the spokesman.
