Police blotter: Felon with gang ties caught with gun; bias crime reported
A convicted felon said to have gang ties was arrested last night in the Hybla Valley area after he allegedly ditched a gun while running from police, according to today’s Fairfax County Police blotter.
The 25-year-old suspect faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, resisting arrest, trespassing, littering and open container of alcoholic beverages in a public place.
Police say that the suspect was in a group of people was spotted by officers on a foot patrol in the 7900 block of Audubon Avenue around 11:30 p.m. The officers believed the group was drinking beer, and when they approached the group, the suspect ran away, according to police.
As the suspect ran, police say they saw him toss something into some bushes. Police caught the suspect and placed him under arrest, and a K9 unit found a handgun in the bushes where the suspect threw the object.
During the investigation, police say they determined the suspect was “an affiliated gang member.” He is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Bias crime reported
Anti-Muslim graffiti was found yesterday inside of an apartment that had been burglarized in the Huntington area, according to today’s blotter.
Police say the apartment, in the 5900 block of Grand Pavilion Way, was broken into sometime between March 24 and March 27. A maintenance man, upon entering the apartment to do work and finding it in disarray, called police yesterday. It was determined that that property had been stolen, and that an “anti-Muslim statement” was written on one of the walls of the apartment.
Police said the incident remains under investigation, and that there’s no suspect information at this time.

Robbery: 7100 block of Richmond Highway, 3/24/17 around 1:50 a.m. Two men robbed a 20-year-old man. The victim was walking outside when the suspects approached from behind and assaulted him. They stole money and fled. The victim declined medical attention.
