Family Dollar in Woodlawn area robbed

The Family Dollar in the Woodlawn Shopping Center at 8734 Richmond Highway was robbed this morning by an armed man.
Police were called around 11:30 a.m. after a report that an assailant entered the store, pulled a handgun and demanded cash from a 54-year-old female employee. The suspect grabbed cash from the register, and then fled on foot, according to a police spokeswoman.
Patrol officers, the police’s Fairfax1 helicopter and a K9 unit responded to the incident, but were unable to track down the suspect.
The employee was not injured in the incident, police said.
