Police blotter: Man escapes from muggers on Route 1

A 56-year-old man managed to escape a violent robbery attempt Tuesday night in the Woodlawn area, according to today’s Fairfax County Police blotter.

The victim was assaulted from behind by three men while walking in the 8300 block of Richmond Highway, police said. The assailants tried to get the victim’s wallet, but he managed to break free during the ongoing assault and run away, according to police.

The muggers, who were described as being between 18-19 years old, fled the scene after the victim got away.

The victim did not need medical attention, police said.
