Police blotter: Gunfire in Goodwill, noise complaint leads to arrest

A man walked into the Goodwill retail store at 8228 Richmond Highway fired a gun during a robbery attempt Friday evening.

The incident happened shortly after the store closed at 9 p.m., according to today’s Fairfax County Police blotter. The man drew a handgun and fired inside the store, and then ran away, according to police. 

No injures were reported, and nothing was reportedly taken.

Officer assaulted

A noise complaint in Hybla Valley turned into a confrontation between 21-year-old man and police officers early Sunday morning, according to the blotter.

Officer responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Windbreak Drive around 12:15 a.m., and one of the occupants allegedly approached them aggressively. Police say the suspect didn’t listen to commands, and he allegedly grabbed one of the officers by his body-armor vest. 

 Kofi Sarpong, of Woodbridge, was taken into custody and charged with assault on law enforcement. 

Would-be robbers spooked

A robbery attempt Monday night ended peacefully when the two would-be robbers fled after spotting a witness, according to police.

The victim had been approached by the two assailants around 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Tamarind Street and Janna Lee Avenue. A knife was pulled by the assailants, and they demanded money from the victim before running off.
