Victim identified in fatal Virginia Hills fire

Logan Court fire

Firefighters work the scene after a fatal fire on Logan Court in the Virginia Hills neighborhood on Saturday.

Jack Darris Thomas, 82, has been identified as the victim of Saturday’s deadly house fire in the Virginia Hills neighborhood, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department announced today.

Firefighters were called to Thomas’s home at 3719 Logan Court around 3:45 p.m. after a neighbor saw smoke coming from the one-story home. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from all sides of the house.

One the fire was under control, a search of the house found Thomas, who was unresponsive, according to the fire department. Thomas was given CPR and taken to a local hospital, where he died later that afternoon.

Thomas was the only person in the home at the time of the fire. A cat who lived in the home also died in the blaze.

Investigators determined that the fire was started due to an electrical event at a wall outlet. An extension cord and surge protector that were being improperly used contributed to the fire, the fire department said.

Damages from the fire are estimated at $18,750, the fire department said.
