Storck to host ‘Tour de Mount Vernon’ bike ride on New Year’s Eve
Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck will close out 2016 by hosting the inaugural “Tour de Mount Vernon” bike ride on New Year’s Eve.
Storck will lead participants on a 50-mile round-trip trek through the Mount Vernon District. Along the ride the he’ll showcase some of the district’s resources and historic sites.
The bike tour is something Storck, a cycling and outdoors enthusiast, has wanted to do since taking office earlier this year, said Christine Morin, his chief of staff.
“As you know, the Mount Vernon District is unique because of the district’s heritage resources, ample opportunities to enjoy the outdoors (especially along the Potomac), and we are a major tourist destination,” Morin said. “[Storck] is looking forward to riding through the district and highlighting our assets — the GW Parkway, Mount Vernon Estate, Grist Mill, Woodlawn, Fort Belvoir, the [Cross County Trail] and the Workhouse Arts Center.”
Participants will meet at Belle Haven Park off the George Washington Parkway at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and the ride will begin at 9:45. Riders will head down the Mount Vernon Trail and eventually make their way to the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, which is the turnaround point.
You can register for the Tour de Mount Vernon here. The ride will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
I can’t do New Year’s Eve but would love to do this another Saturday!
