Police blotter: Man brawls with officer, unsuccessfully tries to take weapon
A Fairfax County Police officer attempting to arrest a man for an outstanding warrant on Saturday ended up needing his baton to subdue the suspect, according to today’s police blotter.
The 23-year-old suspect faces charges of assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest after the incident in the 7900 block of Janna Lee Avenue.
According to police, an officer spotted the suspect walking around 3:30 p.m. The officer recognized him as a suspect with an outstanding warrant on misdemeanor criminal charges. When the officer went to arrest the man, a struggle ensued, police said. During the fight the suspect allegedly grabbed the officer’s gun holster. The officer used his baton on the suspect at that point, and was later assisted by other officers arriving on the scene, according to police.
The suspect, who lives in the 8400 block of Jinetes Court, declined medical attention at the scene but was examined after being taken to jail, police said. The police officer did not require medical attention.
The suspect was also charged with failure to appear in court, which was the outstanding warrant that the officer was arresting him for.
