Police arrest suspect in Tuesday morning Hybla Valley shooting
A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting Tuesday morning in the Sequoyah condominium complex in Hybla Valley, the Fairfax County Police announced today.
The 40-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident today around 12:30 p.m., police said. He faces charges of malicious wounding, use or display of a firearm while committing a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police were called to the 3800 block of Miramonte Place on Tuesday after receiving calls about a man chasing another man with a gun. After a search that included patrol officers, a K9 unit and the police helicopter, the 40-year-old victim was located. He had suffered a “graze” to his leg and was treated at a local hospital, police said.
Police located the suspect today after seeing a vehicle associated with him in the area of 8300 Claremont Woods Drive, which is about a mile from where the shooting took place. Officers took him into custody in a nearby residence, police said.
The shooting was part of a violent two-day period in the Hybla Valley area following Christmas. On Dec. 26, a man was stabbed multiple times about a mile from Tuesday’s shooting incident. The victim in that case sustained critical injuries, and a suspect has been charged.
Police do not believe the two incidents are related.
