A 69-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Richmond Highway on Saturday evening, a Fairfax County Police spokeswoman confirmed today.
Eugene Michael Kotlarchuk, of Forest Hills, New York, was hit by a 2015 Hyundai Sonata in the northbound lanes around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Bellfield Road, not far from the Relax Inn motel. The driver of the striking vehicle, a 35-year-old woman, stayed on the scene, police said.
The driver was taken to the hospital with what police described as non life-threatening injuries.
Kotlarchuk was attempting to cross the roadway and was not in a crosswalk when he was struck, police said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, police said.
Kotlarchuk had previously lived in Alexandria, and worked as an attorney, according to public records.
Saturday’s incident was the second pedestrian death on Route 1 in less than four months. On August 31, a 56-year-old man was killed in the 8300 block of Richmond Highway, across from the old Mount Vernon High School.
