River Towers: Displaced residents will be out of units for months
Residents displaced by the partial building collapse at River Towers will not be able to return to their units for “several months,” according to a message posted yesterday on the condominium’s website.
“To resolve the problem … will involve a process that will be invasive and will take several months,” the message said. “For the duration of this work, residents in the 1,2,3 and 4 tiers will be displaced and in some instances, their units will need to be cleared.”
The River Towers complex consists of three buildings on Wakefield Drive in the Belle Haven area. Columns in the 6631 tower buckled on Sunday afternoon, causing the wing of the building that overhangs the entrance to drop 2-4 inches.
After the incident the entire building was evacuated, but most residents were able to return that night. Residents in the 32 units above the columns that collapsed, however, have only be allowed to return to get belongings.
The other two towers in the complex suffer from the same deterioration that caused the collapse, and will also need repair work. No residents have been displaced from those buildings.
