An 18-year-old man has been charged with 2nd degree murder and robbery in connection to the 2015 murder of a man in Huntington Park, the Fairfax Police announced today.

The suspect, who was not named by police because he was a juvenile when he allegedly committed the crime, is the third person to be arrested in connection to the murder of Khalid Aboumalik. Police say the suspect lived in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County.

Aboumalik, a Moroccan immigrant who rented a room in the neighborhood and had worked as a cook at Old Chicago Pizza on Huntington Avenue, was found on Aug. 5, 2015 by a person walking their dog. Police revealed the cause of Aboumalik’s death for the first time on Friday, saying that he died of “blunt force trauma to the head and sharp force injuries to the neck and torso.”

A week after Aboumalik’s death police arrested Michael Norman Powell, 19, and charged him with murder. Then in October 2015 police announced that a 17-year-old from the Huntington area had been also been charged with murder and robbery in connection to Aboumalik’s death.

Powell pleaded guilty June 6 to second-degree murder and is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Powell, who lived in the 6800 block of Kenyon Drive in the Groveton area, faces up to 40 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 7.

The status of the second suspect charged in Aboumalik’s death is unclear. The Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court has previously refused to release any information regarding the case.

Police said Friday they do not expect any more arrests to be made in the case.
