Commuters using Route 1 early this morning had a rough start to their work weeks after an accident closed the entire road for hours.

The single-car crash happened around 3 a.m. in the 8600 block of Richmond Highway near Frye Road. A Chevrolet van traveling northbound lost control and struck a utility pole, according to the Fairfax County Police. Nobody was injured.

The entire road was shut down while Dominion Virginia Power crews worked to clear the highway. Around 6:15 a.m. the northbound lanes and one of the southbound lanes re-opened. The last southbound lane was reopened around 11 a.m.

It’s unclear if power in the area was affected by the crash; an email to Dominion Power was not immediately returned. According to Dominion Virginia Power, 298 customers were without power for a little over six hours.

The driver of the van was cited for failure to keep their vehicle under control.
