Doctor accused of inapproriately touching patient; faced similar charge a decade ago
A local doctor accused of inappropriately touching a patient during an exam last month faced similar charges in 2004, according to court records.
Fairfax County Police arrested Fausto Fernandez, 75, on July 13 and charged him with sexual battery. Fernandez, who works at HIBP Medical Services at 6911 Richmond Highway, asked a 30-year-old patient to undress during a June 23 exam and then allegedly touched him inappropriately. The victim contacted police that night.
Police say they’re not ruling out the possibility of other victims and they’re are asking anyone with more information to contact them at 703-691-2131.
This is not the first time Fernandez has been accused of touching a patient inappropriately. In 2004, Fernandez was charged with sexual battery in Alexandria after an alleged incident in his office, according to court records. Fernandez was accused of molesting a 38-year-old man during a physical exam required by immigrants to gain permanent residency, The Washington Post reported at the time.
Fernandez was not convicted; court records show the case as not going to trial. An Alexandria General District Court employee told Covering the Corridor that because the case is more than 10 years old, no further information was available.
