Where to watch local fireworks shows this weekend
You don’t need to slog down to the National Mall this weekend to see some fireworks. Here’s some spots around the area where you can catch a show:
July 2
Head down to the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton on Saturday for Fireworks at the Workhouse. Starting at 5 p.m., visitors can check out local art, listen to music, watch some dancing and then catch the fireworks at 9:15. Admission is free but it’s $10 to park.
Tickets are already sold out for Mount Vernon’s celebration of the day Congress voted for independence on Saturday. But you can probably catch the 9 p.m. fireworks from a variety of locations outside the historic estate.
July 3
The Belle Haven Country Club will put on its annual show at 9:15 p.m. Sunday. The club isn’t open to the public, but savvy locals know where to go to watch the fireworks. Parking lots on Belle Haven Road and spots along the George Washington Parkway are popular, and in the past people have caught the action from certain parts of Huntington Avenue and North Kings Highway.
July 4
Mount Vernon hosts an all-day celebration of America’s birthday, which will include a daytime fireworks show. The gates open at 8 a.m. and activities are held until 5 p.m., with the fireworks starting at 1 p.m. Tickets are a little cheaper if you buy online ahead of time.
