A local elementary school instructor was found shot and killed this morning at the Cityside Huntington Metro apartments at 6034 Richmond Highway.

Tarreece John Sampson, 24, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, according to a Fairfax Police news release. Sampson was found by police in the parking lot around 2:20 a.m. after they received a call about a shot person, the release said.

Sampson worked for Fairfax County Public Schools as an instructional assistant at Fort Hunt Elementary School, according to FCPS spokesman John Torre.

A police spokeswoman for the police said it’s too early in the investigation to know exactly when Sampson was shot. She also could not confirm if Sampson was a Cityside resident.

Jafar Haand, a resident of Cityside since 2014, woke up this morning and was immediately informed by his wife of the large police presence at the building. He said the homicide has shocked what he described as a tight-knit community at the apartments.

Our community is a multi-cultural community. It’s a calm and quiet society,” said Haand, a native of Afghanistan. “An incident like this changes everything.”
