Police Blotter: Man tells police he was mugged, then gets arrested for robbery and assault

A man was stabbed early this morning during a robbery attempt outside the 7-Eleven at the corner of Fairhaven Avenue and Richmond Highway, according to an item in today’s Fairfax Police blotter.

The victim was able to fight off his assailant and flee to his nearby home on Belleview Avenue, where he called police before being taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

As police were responding to the victim’s call, a separate call to police brought officers to the corner of Fairhaven Drive and Richmond Highway, where they found a man claiming to have been assaulted by three men. After that man was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police determined he was the suspect in the robbery/stabbing, and charged him.

From the blotter:

ROBBERY / MALICIOUS WOUNDING: Fairhaven Ave / Richmond Hwy, 05/13/16, 1:06 a.m. Officers responded to the location for an unknown situation and found Tyrone Augustus Broom. He claimed that he was assaulted by three males and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Around the same time, officers responded to the 2500 block of Belleview Ave for a report of a robbery.
