Attempted robbery at 7-Eleven comes on heels of holdup at same shopping center

A man attempted to rob the 7-Eleven at the corner of North Kings Highway and School Street in the Penn Daw area last Friday, but came away empty-handed, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The robbery attempt comes just weeks after another store in the same shopping center was hit by armed robbers.

This latest incident occurred at 6:13 a.m. on April 29, when a man walked up to an employee in the store, implied he had a weapon and demanded cash, according to the FCPD blotter. It’s not clear why the would-be robber fled, but nothing was taken, according to the police.

On April 13, the Machucas store in the same small shopping center was hit by a pair of armed robbers, who fled with cash and merchandise. That robbery set off a manhunt in the nearby neighborhood, which included multiple officers, K9 units and the department’s Fairfax 1 helicopter. No arrests have been made in connection with that incident.

Since the 7-Eleven at the corner of North Kings Highway and School Street opened in Dec. 2014, it has been robbed at least once and was the location of a shooting incident. On Sept. 3, 2015 it was hit by a group of armed robbers who are believed to be responsible for a string of 7-Eleven robberies in the Washington D.C.-area. In April 2015 there was a shooting at the store.

Nobody was hurt in either incident, and no arrests have been made.
