Crime in The Corridor: March 11-17 report

Here is a roundup of reported crimes in and around the Route 1 corridor from March 11-17.

Note: This is not a comprehensive accounting of all crimes during that time period; it is a summary of information released from the Mount Vernon District and Franconia District sections of FCPD News website’s daily blotter.

Another arrest North Kings Highway homicide

A third suspect arrested and charged with murder in connection to a shooting on North Kings Highway last year that left a 64-year-old man dead.

Shooting in Gum Springs area

A man from the Richmond Highway corridor is facing attempted malicious wounding charges after allegedly shooting at an acquaintance on Joseph Makell Court in the Gum Springs area.

A 22-year-old man was arrested by Fairfax County Police a few hours after the incident. He was taken into custody, transported to jail and charged with attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and additionally charged with presenting false identification to law enforcement to avoid arrest.

Officer allegedly assaulted during DUI arrest

A Maryland man was arrested on March 16 after allegedly trying to flee police who attempted to pull him over on Telegraph Road.

The man rear-ended another vehicle near the intersection of Telegraph and Farmington Drive, and then assaulted an officer after during his arrest, police said.

From the Mount Vernon District:

Robbery: 6000 block Richmond Highway. 3/12/16, 3:38 a.m. Three men were at the Travelodge drinking when an argument ensued. Two of the men demanded the third’s debit card and PIN. A physical struggle ensued and the two suspects took the victim’s cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects were described as Hispanic; one with a gray, hooded sweatshirt and dark, “Skinny jeans.” The second suspect was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

Attempted robbery: [No address given] The victim, a 37-year-old man, exited a Metrobus and was walking and carrying Walmart bags from his recent purchase. A man approached him and attempted to take the bags and his wallet. The victim fought the suspect off and did not require medical attention. The suspect fled on foot. He was described as black, 20-25 years old, about 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a skinny build. He had a beard and long, possibly braided hair. He was wearing a black, leather jacket.

Burglary: 7900 block of Janna Lee Avenue. 3/12/16, 2:29 p.m. A resident reported that someone entered the residence and took property.

Robbery, 7400 block of Larne Lane, 3/10/16, 9:05 p.m. The victim was walking when an unknown person(s) struck him from behind. The suspect(s) assaulted the victim and took a cell phone and fled. There was no suspect(s) description available. The victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Robbery, 6600 block of Birchleigh Way, 3/11/16, 11:30 p.m. The victim was exiting her vehicle when a male approached her. The suspect displayed a box cutter and grabbed her jacket. The suspect then fled in a white vehicle. The suspect was described as white, in his 30s, wearing a blue denim shirt, and approximately 6 feet tall.

Burglary: 9500 block of Inverary Court. 3/14/16, 2:56.p.m. A resident reported that someone entered the residence and took property.

Attempted Burglary, 6400 block of General Green Way, 03/17/16, 6:50 a.m. A resident reported someone attempted to enter the residence. No property was taken. The suspect was described as a male, approximately 6 feet tall, and had thick curly bushy hair.

Unlawful entry: 7200 block of Wesley Road. 3/14/16, 7:11 a.m. Complainant reported that someone entered a house currently under construction and damaged property.
