No bond for man charged in North Kings Highway murder

Timothy Lamont Washington
Timothy Lamont Washington, charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Fairhaven-area man, was denied bond earlier this week, according to a Fairfax County Criminal Court official and Washington’s attorney.
Washington, an Alexandria resident, was arrested earlier this month in connection with the murder of Santos Zelaya, 64, on March 26, 2015. That evening Zelaya was shot multiple times inside his residence in the 6100 block of North Kings Highway, according to police. A police helicopter landed at Mount Eagle Elementary School, located across from Zelaya’s house, and transported Zelaya to a hospital, where he later died from his wounds.
Washington is the third person to be charged in the case. Gregory Brown, 23, of Washington, D.C. and Niziah Williams, of Clinton, Md., were arrested and charged with Zelaya’s murder last May. A trial has not been scheduled for either man, who are being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Zelaya was shot after confronting the suspects with a machete after they had broke in through the front door and held Zelaya’s roommate at gunpoint, according to court papers obtained and reported by The Washington Post.
Washington’s attorney, Toni Fay, declined to comment on the case.
