Saturday notes: Early voting ends today, school board election set, renovated playground to open

The Farrington Park playground in Huntington will reopen later this month.

Early voting ends today

Today is the final day to vote absentee in person for the June 13 primary elections. The closest absentee voting locations to the Route 1 area are the Mount Vernon Governmental Center (see map) and the Franconia Governmental Center (see map). Each are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

School board election date set

A special election to fill an open seat on the Fairfax County School Board will be held on Aug. 29, the board announced Friday. The election is to replace at-large member Jeanette Hough, who resigned last month. The election is estimated to cost up to $250,000.

Huntington area playground near completion

The Fairfax County Park Authority will hold a ribbon-cutting for the newly renovated Farrington Park playground in Huntington on June 24. The playground, located at 2213 Farrington Avenue, underwent a $185,000 renovation that included installation of new playground and tot lot equipment, a timber border, safety surfacing, drainage, benches, picnic tables, fencing and an upgraded ADA accessible route.

Celebrate Fairfax! underway

The Celebrate Fairfax! festival began Friday and runs through Sunday at the Fairfax County Governmental Center. The annual celebration features food vendors, children’s rides and activities, fireworks and music from groups like Everclear, Fastball and Vertical Horizon.
