Police blotter: Man breaks into home, flees after being confronted by resident

A man broke into an occupied residence near the intersection of Franconia Road and Telegraph Road on Tuesday evening, prompting a large search of the surrounding area by police.

Police say they received a call about the break-in around 9:15 p.m. A resident was in his home in the 5800 block of Governors Hill Drive when a man forced his way inside, police said. The suspect fled after being confronted by the resident.

Per scanner traffic heard during the incident, police responded to the scene and secured the house, and began a search of the area. A K9 unit and the Fairfax1 helicopter joined the search, looking along a creek near Telegraph, in Jefferson Manor Park and in the Wilton Woods neighborhood.

About an hour after the initial call, the search was ended. Police described the suspect as being a black man with dreadlocks, about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a medium build.

No injuries were reported by police, and nothing was reported missing from the home.
