West Potomac senior guard Khalil Williams, center, was named to the first-team All-Patriot District team for the second consecutive year.

The West Potomac’s boys basketball team, which clinched its first-ever Patriot District regular season title Friday night, was rewarded Saturday with five players being voted to the All-Patriot District squad.

Coach David Houston III also picked up Coach of the Year honors after leading the Wolverines to a 19-3 record, including just one district loss.

Houston credited his entire coaching staff– which includes his father, David Houston Jr. — for helping him earn the honor.

“It’s a staff award in my opinion,” Houston said. “My name goes on the list, but I have the best staff in the state.”

West Potomac senior guard Khalil Williams, West Potomac sophomore guard Daryl Mackey Jr., and Mount Vernon senior guard Alpha Kamara all picked up first-team All-Patriot District honors. Williams was also selected to the all-defensive team.

West Potomac senior forward Da’Jon Bellfield was named the district’s Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to being named second-team all-district.
