Richmond Highway BRT information meeting @ Bryant High School

Fairfax County will hold a third Public Information Meeting on the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the gymnasium at Bryant High School located at 2709 Popkins Lane in Alexandria. The meeting will feature an open house from 6:30-8:30 p.m., with a presentation at 7 p.m. Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) staff and project consultants will provide updates on the BRT project (including the system design and potential property impacts), discuss next steps, answer questions and take public comments from the community related to the planning and design of the BRT system.

In compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106 and 36 CFR, Part 800), information concerning the potential effects of the proposed project on properties listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places will be provided in the project’s environmental documentation and will be available for comment at this meeting.

Free transportation is available, per request, from Sacramento Neighborhood Center, South County Government Center, and Hybla Valley Elementary School.

See what’s blooming as fall arrives at Huntley Meadows Park. Join a hike on Saturday, September 21, 2019, to find plants such as turtlehead, jewelweed, seed box and cardinal flowers.

Register for the “Sketch Hike Fall Wildflowers ID” program to see how these beautiful fall wetland flowers live. Then, learn how to sketch them to keep the memories alive. Drawing materials are included in the cost of the program, courtesy of the RunningBrooke Fund.

This program is designed for participants age 10 to adult. It runs from 10 a.m. to noon, and the cost is $15 per person.

This meeting follows up on the April 30 Community Conversations meeting about what residents of Hybla Valley/Gum Springs values in its community and what challenges it faces. We will show the video of the April 30 meeting , discuss the report, and hear about discussions with county officials.

THEN we will discuss how residents want to see the community develop in the future. AFTER the highway is widened and the BRT is running, what types of businesses, recreation, shopping, jobs, and housing do we want to see here? NOW is the time to plan so your ideas can be incorporated into the mix.

Child car safety seat inspections @ Mount Vernon District Police Station

In preparation for your appointment, you should install the seat in your vehicle using the instructions that came with the car seat. Trained officers will review the car seat instructions and car owner’s manual to be certain that they are being followed as they should. All events are held in the parking lot of that district station.
