Police blotter: Woman arrested after hit-and-run involving school bus

A woman faces felony hit-and-run charges after allegedly rear-ending a Fairfax County Public School bus Tuesday afternoon, according to Thursday’s police blotter.

Chantel Gentry, 25, is accused of leaving the scene after hitting the bus while it was stopped in traffic around 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of Sherwood Hall Lane and Fordson Road. 

The bus was carrying children from Stratford Landing Elementary School, according to an FCPS spokesman. None of the kids needed to go to the hospital, police said. 

Police say Gentry was located and arrested at a hospital after they were informed that someone matching her description arrived there.

Gentry, who lives in the Mount Vernon area according to court records online, was also served with a felony warrant for allegedly failing to appear in court on a previous drug charge, police said.

Man robbed while trying to sell shoes

A meetup to sell a pair of shoes turned into an armed robbery Tuesday night, according to Thursday’s blotter.

Police say two men met in the 8100 block of Keeler Street (see map) around 8:30 p.m. after making arrangements online. The would-be buyer pulled a handgun on the seller, however, and fled with the shoes.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect was described as being black male in his late teens, around 5 feet 6 inches tall and 120 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and gray pants, according to police.

Fraud: On March 20, an employee noticed damage to an ATM at the United Bank at 7901 Richmond Highway in the Hybla Valley area (see map). A technician determined that a skimming device had been inserted into the ATM, causing the damage.
