A large emergency response got the attention of many folks living near the Cityside Huntington Metro apartments this weekend, but it turned out to be a false alarm.

Fairfax Fire and Rescue received a call around 4:55 p.m. Sunday saying that smoke was coming from one of the four Cityside high-rises at 6034 Richmond Highway. However when firefighters arrived and searched the building, nothing was found, according to fire department spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt.

Because of the large size of the buildings and the potential dangers presented by a fire in such a space, first responders didn’t take any chances when the call arrived.

“The large response is due to the building being a high rise,” Hildebrandt said. “If it had been something more the units would be needed.”
