Police blotter: Delivery men robbed in same spot; sword-wielding man tased

Three food delivery men were robbed in the Route 1 area this weekend, including two on back-to-back nights on the same block, according to Tuesday’s police blotter. And in an unusual incident, a man with two swords was tased and arrested by police on Sherwood Hall Lane on Saturday night.

The first deliver driver was robbed at knifepoint in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway (see map) on Saturday night around 11:15 p.m. The driver was taking food to a home when the unknown man with the knife came up to him and demanded money.

The driver was not hurt, and the only description of the suspect provided was that he was a black man in a red shirt.

The second and third robberies happened Sunday and Monday nights in the 7900 block of Kidd Place (see map), which is near Muddy Hole Farm Park. In each of the incidents, the driver was also approached by an unknown man with a knife who demanded money.

The first robbery took place Sunday night around 11:15 p.m., according to police. The delivery driver in that incident threw his food at the assailant and ran away without getting harmed or surrendering any money, police said.

The second robbery was Monday night around 9:40 p.m, according to police. The pizza delivery man was approached by a knife-wielding man in a black mask and dark clothing, police said. That driver also wasn’t injured.

Police did not say if the three robberies are believed to be related.

Man with sword arrested

A man allegedly who allegedly swung two swords in the directions of officers was subdued by Taser on Saturday night, according to police.

The 19-year-old suspect faces charges of brandishing, disorderly conduct, and trespassing after the incident, which police say happened around 8:40 p.m. in the 3100 block of Sherwood Hall Lane (see map).

Officers were responding to a call about a man yelling and knocking over trash cans in the area, according to police. When officers arrived, the man allegedly began swinging two “Samurai style” swords and ignored officers trying to speak with him, police said.

The suspect was treated on the scene after being tased, and was then taken to jail.
