The Fairfax County Police Department said today that they will be canvassing the area near where a man approached and grabbed an 8-year-old girl last week after she exited her school bus.

Officers will be talking to residents and handing out bilingual flyers starting around 5 p.m., according to a press release. They are looking for the public’s help in identifying the individual who may have tried to abduct the girl near the intersection of Frye Road and Madge Lane last Wednesday. The girl told police that the man grabbed her arm after attempting to talk with her, and then briefly gave chase after she ran away.

The girl made it home safely and told her mother what had happened, and the police were contacted. A description of the suspect can be seen in the flyer below.

The incident rattled the nerves of an area already reeling from last week’s discovery of 16-year-old Jholie Moussa in Woodlawn Park, which is just blocks from where the young girl was approached. Police have said they don’t have reason to believe the two incidents are related. A 17-year-old “person of interest” is in custody in connection with Moussa’s disappearance and death.
