Police looking for person who tried to shoot open ATM at Route 1 bank

Images provided by the police show a person who shot an ATM with a shotgun at a Route 1 bank.

Police are looking for a person who shot an ATM machine with a shotgun early Sunday morning in a failed attempt to steal money from it.

The incident happened at a BB&T bank in the Engleside Plaza shopping center at 8650 RIchmond Highway. A customer attempting to use the ATM around 11 a.m. found the damaged machine, and police used surveillance footage to figure out that someone had shot the machine around 4:45 a.m. that morning.

The would-be theif only fired once, according to a police spokesman. No money was taken.

Police do not have a description of the suspect beyond what is seen in the images above. They believe he or she fled in a 4-door sedan.

Tipsters are eligible for rewards of $100 to $1,000 dollars if their information leads to an arrest, according to police.
